Bedrock Abstraction Series

In making my encaustic paintings, I have used photographs of a place familiar to me: North Point along the shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. Conditions along the shoreline change over the seasons as the lake water rises and falls. I often aimed the camera down to photograph the bedrock and algae covered pools of water.

Methods I use to build my painting include manipulated photographs printed onto rice paper and incorporated into the surface of the wax. Additionally, I have used silk screen to add reductive elements of the rock surface.
