Forest Abstraction
The work in Forest Abstraction uses personal photographs of the woods printed onto rice paper with an archival inkjet printer combined with abstract elements of wax. In some cases, bedrock lines are added in silkscreen. My observations of the landscape provide an imaginative structure in my paintings. I suggest the physicality of the earth with abstract forms, lines and color creating a layered space. In this way, the landscape is deconstructed and presented in a nontraditional way. My intention is to invoke the eternal energies of the forest as a place of refuge, inviting people to consider the beauty and power of the natural world and to feel a deeper connection to it
