News for spring 2023

Winter seems to finally be losing its grip on the Midwest. My attention is turning to my upcoming solo show opening in June at the Monroe Arts Center in Monroe WI. I visited the Arts Center in April to get a look at the gallery and make plans for the show, which opens June 9th and runs through August 18th.

This will be another chance for me to hang all the work from Enduring Earth and include several new paintings from Rejuvenation, my forest series.

I am exploring the play between abstraction and representation.  My painting Forest Map is an example of this. The structure of the painting shifts between abstract and representational elements of photo ink jet, the silkscreen outlines, and the geometry of the encaustic shapes.  I see this painting as an expression of internal thought structures or internal mapping of the world.

I seek to spark the viewer’s imagination and reinforce their connection to the natural world.

Here’s a video of my process creating my recent work, The Fallen II, shown in the above.

April 27 is the opening of the Tarot Project, produced by photographer, curator, and artist Susan Aurinko. Susan invited artists from all over the city to serve as models for each card or have their artwork featured on a full deck of Tarot Cards. They will be on display at Primitive, (address); tarot decks of the project will be available for purchase.  I am honored to have one of my paintings included in this creative and original original project .
